The remains of a desiccated tree lying at the bottom of the narrow sandstone corridor, leading to a formation known as the Wave in the Coyote Buttes Wilderness Area.
The branch took on the form of an exotic form of driftwood, the rows of multi-coloured sandstone fins twisting and turning around each other like petrified water -- as if suspended in time.
Muted light evened out the tones and diffused any shadows. Minutes earlier I’d been cursing the cloud cover from robbing me of any sunrise opportunities, but any strong directional light would have rendered this scene in too much shadow and contrast—which goes to prove, there’s no such thing as bad weather.
